It’s time to call time on the ego trip … by David Stone – Totnes, UK
Of late, life has invited me to touch base with my deepest darkest rawest wounds – betrayal, rejection, abandonment and heart break. Cast under a spell of confusion and disorientation, drowning in a whirlpool of intense suffering and woe, I have really struggled to find my centre. Thankfully, there is a counter spell J as recent events have presented me with a choice, a choice to view this personal melting down as an opportunity for rebirth, to lay down (once again) the old garments of my ego and the identity, stories, perspectives, hurts and wounds associated with this ragged and outworn costume of self.
Become like melting snow; wash yourself of yourself. With love your inner voice will find a tongue growing like a silent white lily in the heart ~ Rumi
Do you, like me, yearn to drink from the sweet nectar of Your Source? To see through the illusion of your dependencies and addictions and live from, express, and manifest your soul’s deepest yearnings? Do you dream for a chance to reach beyond the veil of illusion, and unfold a life of joy, peace, power and fulfilment?
The only snag is, that when nose down in deep soul work, we tend to lose perspective and sometimes forget that we are magnificent and majestic beings of radiant light. Being in contact with our wounds, although essential, sometimes becomes overwhelming and consuming, to the point where we forget our divine nature and identify with the suffering and we begin to believe we ARE the suffering.
There is good news. Behind this suffering lurks our greatest redemption, quietly submerged in deep mystery like the Holy Grail. A gift so precious it would blow our minds wide open to a source of unimaginable Love. If only we realised that all of our suffering, seeking, and finely preened defence mechanisms and carefully honed personality traits, have been a front to protect us from the very truth of who we really are at our deepest core – blessed, deeply sensitive, gentle, pure, radiant, iridescent beings of light.
What’s more, and here’s the rub, it does not stop there. We are all of this and more, for at the same time, we are absolute nothingness – pure silence, peace, stillness, emptiness and LOVE. A love that is so profound, so impartial, so consuming, we come to know that we are the God we have always been seeking.
“Be Still…and know that I AM God” ~ Joseph Benner
And so, as we begin to work through this process to support our tender hearts to find the space within to ground us in luscious support and guidance within our perfectly designed bodies, we too, like Gandalf the Grey in Lord of The Rings, can choose to return after fighting the beast below and cast off our dirty grey, moth bitten, filth stained cloaks.
For we can choose to learn that we are not these impermanent states of pain and suffering, and even these feeling states, these old friends are not permanent and can be washed through or even discarded just like a casual garment. We no longer need to mistake suffering for our true nature, the radiant cloak which contains a burning bright light, a magnitude of vividly alive colours, unique in each of us.
“And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not either do they spin; and yet I say unto you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these” ~ Jesus The Christ
As I journey through this process, I have found it interesting to ask myself, “What was all the fuss about again?” This time, as I take a long hard look suddenly something bright grabs my attention, a gallery displaying artwork inspired by sayings of the Christ. Only today as I seize the opportunity to surrender control, a doorway opens up and I buckle. I drive to the venue and as I enter I start to dissolve into a force, a soft intelligence greater than anything I could possibly ever imagine, melting my wounds into tears of grief and laughter.
If you have ever seen the film ‘Liar Liar’ with Jim Carrey or browsed the YouTube video series with Mooji entitled ‘Laughing Buddha’ (see video below), you may also be reduced to hysterics and realise the absolute myth of who you project yourself to be. To receive the fact that in actuality, only in this moment, in this NOW, can we truly exist, born into an ever expanding potential, an ever increasing light which radiates love, peace and EMPOWERMENT.
“I met in the street a very poor young man who was in love. His hat was old, his coat worn, his cloak was out at the elbows, the water passed through his shoes, – and the stars through his soul.” ~ Victor Hugo
Our lives may finally align and become attuned to our soul force, an unfolding into being who we truly are, evolving in each moment, doorway after doorway of melting and surrendering. Throw out the self help books, the dogmatic teachings, the crystals and the chocolate….and be still…pause….and listen to the God force which resides within you. It may or may not be the most fantastical experience of your life but I assure you, if practiced enough….your life will never ever be the same again.
Namaste
David
